Online CPD Accredited The Psychology of Hoarding

Hoarding Disorder is a complex mental health condition, the field of psychology allows us to explore the inner workings of the human brain to understand further where the behaviour develops and why it happens.

The need to hold onto items is often a coping mechanism in response to experiencing a traumatic or life changing event, or from the influence of other co-morbid mental health or neurodiverse conditions that are also present. This course breaks down the psychological mechanisms underpinning these responses, allowing learners to better understand how person focused strategies and effective approaches to treatment.

This course has been developed around the trainer’s on going Psychological PhD research, which is focused on developing better treatment pathways for hoarding behaviour. This is being carried out by working with clients involved in our Chaos to Order Project and combining their insights with the academic study and principles of Psychology more broadly.
