Holistic Hoarding

Trauma informed support for individuals with hoarding behaviours.

Example

Holistic Hoarding is an organisation based in Wales that focuses on providing a trauma informed approach to supporting clients with hoarding behaviours.

It was established after observing the impact of house clearances on tenants, and how this often led to increased distress and more severe hoarding behaviour as a protective reaction to the process.

Their expert services focus on providing clients with the support they need to work through the physical items, and the emotional experiences, that lead them to holding on all while avoiding triggering re-traumatisation.

Meet The Founder

Holistic Hoarding was founded by industry leading professional Kayley Hyman whilst she was completing a MSc in mental health and came to realise how little service provision there was available to people with hoarding behaviours.

Kayley has worked across mental health and housing for over ten years, and her key passion is providing advocacy for people facing eviction due to hoarding behaviours.

As a means to imbed the importance of therapeutic practice within the industry she has pioneered the method of Trauma Informed Approaches To Hoarding Behaviours as a way to encourage all practitioners to adopt this manner of supporting clients, reinforcing the fact hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition and must be treated as such.

How We Work Together

Our collaboration with Kayley began when she first reached out to Heather, our founder, while setting up Holistic Hoarding. Since then, we have built a strong partnership rooted in shared values, compassion, and a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding hoarding disorder.

Together, we network, deliver training, host events, and raise vital awareness about the need for person-centred, trauma-sensitive support. Kayley is a pioneer in the holistic approach to managing hoarding behaviours, the training she has put together provides practitioners with the ability to support clients with not only navigate their belongings but also addressing the emotional experiences behind them, all while avoiding re-traumatisation.

We are honoured to work so closely with such an incredible organisation and such incredible people, through our combined efforts we aim to cultivate supportive, respectful, and empowering approach to hoarding support — working to create lasting, positive change for individuals and communities.
