National Guidelines for Hoarding Support – Visiting Parliament

A trip to Parliament to push for national guidelines that will outline how to successfully and compassionately support those with Hoarding Disorder
BBC News have joined us over the last four months to get an insight into our Chaos to Order Project which is a multi-agency approach funded by Birmingham City Council that provides support to residents with hoarding challenges. Four segments have been shown on BBC Midlands Today this week and last nights detailed the rapidly growing need for national guidelines to provide more standardised means of support.
The opportunity to speak with MP Paulette Hamilton is something Heather Matuozzo, our incredible founder, has spent the last 16 years trying to achieve since she started Clouds End CIC in 2009 after discovering there were no professional guidelines or organisations that existed in the UK to support individuals with hoarding challenges.
Although over the years multiple other incredible hoarding support organisations have been set up around the country, the government is yet to adopt a standardised charter that addresses hoarding as a recognised mental health condition and ensures the support provided is in line with that.
However, the fact we have been able to not only bring this directly to parliament but also have the campaign backed by the BBC speaks volumes for how times may finally be changing..
So in the words of our founder..
‘I’M GOING TO KEEP MAKING A NOISE, I THINK THAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING’
And we hope everyone else will too.. it is about time those with hoarding challenges are offered easy access to compassionate support INSTEAD of facing the stigma, lack of emotional support and eviction notices.
