How Australia’s Hoarding Crisis Exposed A Nation’s Forgotten Anxieties

WE SPOKE TO A SELF-CONFESSED TP HOARDER AND FOUND THAT THE COVID-19 PANIC DIDN’T MOBILISE THE SELFISH, BUT ALSO THOSE WHO FELL VICTIM TO THEIR LONG-INGRAINED FEARS AND ANXIETIES.

It’s fairly easy to look at the videos of people literally stabbing each other over a packet of toilet paper and paint them all with the same brush. In fact, in upwards of 80% of those people, said brush is probably accurate.

These are the people who ignore the advice and give in to an ‘every man for himself’ mentality at the first available opportunity. They’re the panicky soccer-moms. The boomers. The bogans. Australia’s equivalent to the rednecks you normally see fighting over a discount TV during an American Black Friday sale.
